The Opera Studio was established in 1998 with the primary objective of providing a low-cost performance venue for the presentation of opera rarities and music theatre works featuring the best emerging South Australian artists, directors, designers, choreographers and musicians. It has now become a viable and popular alternative performance venue offering an exciting annual program of activities.

The studio is also available to individual artists and local community theatre groups, including those catering for people with disabilities, for performances and fundraising activities. The Studio offers free parking and easy disability access. The Opera Studio program encourages and fosters people from all backgrounds to improve their skills, knowledge and awareness by engaging in community performance activities.

The Baroque Project 2008

In 2008 State Opera will present a unique program at the Opera Studio to be known as the Baroque Project. The program involves a visitng residency by well known Australian stage director, Lindy Hume, to work with local artists on interpreting a master piece from the Baroque period, Monteverdi's L'Orfeo.
